Description
The Patek Philippe 3970 with perpetual calendar and chronograph in 18k rose gold is SO nice. Serious Patek Philippe collectors consider the 3970 a "must own" watch... which is why the price keeps increasing; there are simply fewer watches available with each passing year. Even if collecting Patek Philippe watches is not in your plan, if you are in the market for a high-end, daily watch then the 3970 is a watch you should consider.
This is a second-series 3970 from 1991 with early dial and leaf (or “feuille” hands).
Case is 18k rose gold with dimensions of 37mm diameter by 13.5mm thick. Domed sapphire front crystal. Solid 18k rose case back. Pump style chronograph pushers. Hallmarks on the outside surfaces of each lug.
Dial is silver with applied rose gold obus hour markers (not with the arrow point of later dials) and leaf or feuille hands instead of the straight baton hands used on third series watches. The following information is presented on the dial: 3 o'clock subdial shows leap year cycle and 30 minute chronograph totalizer; 6 o'clock subdial shows moonphase and date; 9 o'clock subdial shows constant seconds and 24 hour time. Day and month are displayed in the apertures.
Movement is the manual winding Caliber 27-70Q with 24 jewels, adjusted for hot and cold, and bearing the Geneva Seal. The chronograph features column wheel construction.
Strap is new hand-sewn Patek crocodile with 18k rose gold Patek deployant clasp.
Watch is in mint condition with original Patek box, Extract from the Archives, Patek wallet, booklets and hang tag.
