Description
I predict that someday in the next 5-10 years, the Double Red Sea-Dweller will catch up to the Paul Newman Daytona in terms of pricing and collectability. The Sea-Dweller is an underrated Rolex. Its history is one of collaborative innovation with Comex, and the Double Red dial was only offered for a short period. Let’s face it, it’s a great looking watch and rare today. Once these are permanently snatched up, it will be too late to acquire one for a reasonable price.
This original Double Red has the Mark IV dial with ghost bezel and lovely patina.
Original stainless steel case measures 40mm diameter by 17mm thick. Crystal is domed acrylic. The original TripLock crown screws down smoothly and operates perfectly. The original bezel turns with the proper amount of resistance and has a great looking original faded “ghost” bezel insert.
Serial number 5034XXX dates production to 1976/77. Inside case back has ‘1665’ and the watch’s serial number engraved (how cool is that?).
Original untouched black Mark 4 dial with really nice, matching luminous across the hour markers and original hands. Date window at 3 o’clock with silver date wheel.
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to temperature and in 5 positions. Movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer and is in immaculate running condition.
Watch is on new custom rustic leather strap with Rolex buckle.
