Description
This watch is very special. A 6611 Day Date in rose gold is special per se… but this watch was originally sold at the now defunct Joyeria Riviera in Havana Cuba. Serial number dates the watch to the 1950s and Riviera in Havana closed its doors in 1961. The Joyeria Riviera was a two-story mansion on Havana’s Galiano Avenue and as you might imagine, a fine jeweler during Cuba’s good times. This aspect of this watch’s story makes it a most romantic watch..
Original solid 18k rose gold case with legible model and serial numbers features solid 18k reeded bezel, plastic crystal, and perfectly functioning screw down crown. Case dimensions are 36mm diameter by 12.5mm thick. Case has thick uniform lugs and is in mint original condition.
Serial number 384XXX dates watch to mid/late 1950s. Inside case back has ‘6611’ and shows an extensive service history.
Champage pie-pan dial with applied rose gold hour markers and original rose gold Alpha hands. Full day on display at 12 o’clock and all-red date wheel. Dial and hands are mint.
Original Rolex C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer automatic winding movement with 25 jewels and adjusted to temperature and in 5 positions. Movement has the cool butterfly style rotor and is in mint condition.
Okay, now for one of the watch’s highlights: its bracelet. Joyeria Riviera had its own bracelets for its Rolex watches. This Jubilee style bracelet is 18k rose gold and signed “Riviera” and 750 indicating that it is 18k rose gold.
So, we have an extremely rare Rolex reference 6611 made much rarer by the fact that it is rose gold, originally retailed in Havana Cuba and has its original 18k rose gold Joyeria Riviera bracelet… I can’t think of a nicer Day Date I’ve ever seen…
