Description
The Patek Philippe reference 2526 is a very important wristwatch. Not only does it have an enamel dial, it also contains Patek's first automatic winding movement. The 2526 was introduced in 1953 and production was limited to only 480 watches in yellow gold. The 2526 is also significant because Patek took the occasion of their first automatic winding caliber to also introduce a massive, domed screw down caseback. This watch is from 1953.
The original untouched enamel dial is beige color with applied golden hour markers and original gold dauphine hands and subsidiary seconds. The minutes chapter is comprised of embossed gold dots. This dial is 100% original and in perfect condition.
Rare, thin three-piece case is solid 18k yellow gold with dimensions of 35mm diameter by 10mm thick. Later 2526 cases are 12mm thick and two-piece. Bombe acrylic crystal. The massive domed 18k case back is designed to prevent water, humidity and dirt intrusion. Case is in mint condition.
Movement is the Patek Philippe automatic winding Caliber 12 - 600 AT with 30 jewels, Gyromax balance, adjusted to heat/cold and 5 positions, free-sprung Breguet balance and stamped with the Geneva Seal. The 18k gold winding rotor is signed and decorated with barleycorn guilloche. This is Patek Philippe’s first automatic winding movement, making the 2526 a particularly collectable wristwatch.
Strap is vintage brown Patek alligator with vintage 18k Patek buckle.
