Description
One look at this watch "in the metal" and you will become an instant believer. I don’t think a watch can be nicer looking than a solid 18k gold Rolex Daytona with the black dial. Extremely comfortable, eminently prestigious, outrageously good looking and being solid gold also very investment worthy.
The 16520 (stainless steel), 16523 (steel and 18k) and 16528 (solid 18k) model Daytonas are the first automatic winding chronographs in Rolex’s history. As such, this is an important and collectable Rolex wristwatch.
Case is 40mm diameter, in solid 18k yellow gold, with sapphire crystal, screw down crown and chronograph pushers, and bezel with engraved "Units per Hour" scale. Rolex Oyster bracelet has 13 solid 18k gold links, and will comfortably fit up to an 8.25 inch wrist. Flip-lock clasp with the Rolex coronet in factory sharp condition.
Dial is black with applied hour markers. Chronograph totalizer subdials for 30 minutes and 12 hours. The word "Daytona" is printed in red and arches over the lower subdial. Gold chapter rings.
Movement is the Rolex Caliber 4030 which is actually a Rolex modified Zenith El Primero base caliber. If one ever needed proof that Rolex is a perfectionist, they need look no further than their use and modifications to the El Primero. The Zenith El Primero was, and is, recognized as being the best large series production chronograph caliber made. Rolex used the El Primero in their Daytona watches, but not before doing extensive upgrades and refinements.
Condition is like new with original box and papers. This is truly a gorgeous watch.
