Description
Even in the large, diverse, elite world of Patek Philippe watches, the now discontinued reference 5070 in 18k yellow gold with black dial stands out for its good looks. This watch is one of Patek's homeruns for me.
Let's start with the solid 18k case, which measures 42mm diameter by 13mm thick. The bezel is very broad and is set off by the large winding crown, rectangular chrono-pushers and long, thick lugs. Magnificent case! Lugs are stepped and the steps on this case are crisp and this case is never polished.
Dial is black and very handsome. Applied yellow gold numerals and hands. The outermost chapter on the dial is a simple seconds register for the chronograph seconds hand, while the inner chapter is a tachymetric scale. Gold feuille hands.
Movement is the manual winding PP Caliber 27, clearly visible through the sapphire display back, proudly displaying its Geneva Seal. 28 jewels in this beauty, which beats at a leisurely 18,000 BPH... which helps to extend the power reserve to approximately 56 hours.
Let me interject my feelings here: this is a watch that you could put on and never take off, except while doing sports/water activities. It is absolutely beautiful!
Watch is indistinguishable from new with hang tag, box and papers from the Patek Geneva showroom.
