Description
This is one of the nicest vintage Rolex Day Dates we have ever offered. The big story is that the watch is 18k rose gold (or pink gold as some prefer to call it) and in fantastic condition. Plus, the vignette dial is very unusual and very attractive. This will grace the wrist of a lady or man with equal aplomb.
Original case is solid 18k rose gold with dimensions of 36mm diameter by 11.7mm thick. Crystal is plastic. Original screw down 18k crown operates perfectly and smoothly. The fluted bezel, along with the rest of the case, is mint. Serial number 1856XXX dates production to 1968.
Original, untouched vignette pie-pan dial on this watch is a special treat and is truly gorgeous. First of all, it is brown in color. It probably started out as a red vignette dial and has darkened organically with time to its current brown color. Regardless, it is now a hue between maroon and brown. These vignette dials always have diamond hour markers with the baguettes at 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Full day on display at 12 o'clock and date at 3 o'clock. Original rose gold hands. Dial and hands are in perfect, mint+ condition.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1556 with 26 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. The movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Movement is clean and running. The day and date switch over crisply at midnight.
Watch is on an unworn brown Patek Philippe strap with vintage 14k gold Rolex buckle.
