Description
Here is a really cool, 100% original and untouched vintage Rolex Oyster Royal from 1940. That’s 73 years old. It’s still got its original, beautiful blued hands, copper dial with arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds.
For some unfathomable reason, my favorite part of this watch is the inside case back which reads in part GREAT BRITAIN PATENTS SWISS PATENTS FRENCH PATENTS U.S.A. PATENTS GERMAN PATENTS. This watch was made WAY before Rolex could have dreamed of becoming the most famous watch company in the world and that’s its biggest charm.
Well, that and the original copper dial with original blued hands!
Stainless steel case measures 31mm diameter by 12.2mm thick with domed plastic and original screw down crown. Smooth bezel. Outside case back is engraved “JACK LEWIS”. Both the model number 2280 and serial number 1445XX are on the outside case back also and are clear and undiminished by polishing over the years.
Rolex manual winding caliber 10 ½’’’ with 17 jewels and Superbalance. Movement is clean and running.
Watch is 100% original and 100% charming. New lizard strap. Condition is mint.
