Description
While all Rolex sports models share a similar style, I believe the dial on the Explorer (also known as the Explorer One or Explorer 1) is the most iconic of all Rolex watches. The dial offers the absolute minimim of information needed to read the time, emphasizing function over form, yet it achieves an elegance that was likely not intended. Rolex designed the original Explorer as a watch for climbers, and the watch figured prominently in early Rolex advertisements for its role in helping early explorers to summit Mount Everest.
Original untouched gilt dial with chapter ring is clean and beautiful. Original hands.
Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 35mm diameter by 12mm thick. Domed acrylic crystal. Original screw down crown operating perfectly. Serial number 745XXX which dates to 1961. Case back has personalized engraving. Inside caseback is engraved with production code of second quarter 1962.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1560 with 25 jewels and adjusted to temperature and in five positions. Movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer and is pristine and running.
Watch is on new leather strap with Rolex buckle.
