Description
First of all, although Rolex no longer produces the model 14270 Explorer, this watch is unambiguously new. We found a Rolex collector with two of these watches that have, literally, never been worn. Complete with box and papers, hang tag, etc...
I have always believed that the Explorer, or Explorer 1 as it is known, adheres to the form follows function rule of design. There are no embellishments of any kind on this watch. It is a stainless steel watch, never offered in gold, with a black dial with luminous hour markers, luminous hands and an applied '3', '6' and '9' with the arrow at 12 o'clock. This design prevents the wearer from being confused about the orientation of the watch relative to his or her eyes. Since a watch also allows a wearer to determine True North, which can be essential information for an explorer, this design again prevents the explorer from misinterpreting the information being shown on the watch dial.
Also, the Explorer is 36mm, which is not large, which provides for an easy fit underneath multiple layers of clothing, gloves, etc... Every detail of this watch was thought-out and the timepiece is perfect for its intended use.
Rolex Certified Chronometer automatic winding Caliber 3000 with 27 jewels, self-compensating balance spring and microstella regulating screws.
Bracelet is the Rolex Oyster in full-length.
This watch is new with box and papers and is quite a collector's piece.
