Description
We are very pleased to offer this rare Patek Philippe wristwatch to all buyers - the reference 5350 annual calendar in 18k rose gold. This model is limited in production to 300 watches, and you can tell how special it is to Patek because they have imprinted the following text on the display back crystal: "Patek Philippe Advanced Research". There is also a magnifying crystal built into the display back to show off the SpiromaxR balance spring. The technology used to create this new type of balance spring resulted in 3 patents being granted to Patek Philippe.
The technical nomenclature about the innovations introduced with the SpriomaxR reads like an engineering tome. Here is the summary: the SpiromaxR balance spring is made from SilinvarT which is actually a brand new compound derived from monocrystaline silicon. It was developed between Patek and another, unnamed, Swiss watch brand and a research institute. Patek's engineers derived a new terminal "curve" design for the balance spring which takes full advantage of the properties of the SilinvarT. This meant shifting the mass of the spring for perfect symmetry as it expands and contracts over its entire spectrum of movement. You can read much, much more about this new technology if you wish. However, the basic idea is that this new balance spring introduces far improved isochronism and eliminates the need for lubrication of yet another critical part of the balance assembly.
In a quick personal observation: when I was researching the technical improvements involved with this watch, I was struck by just how serious these types of innovations are to Patek. I mean they are really committed to Research & Design. It's very impressive that they are not even close to resting on their laurels - rather Patek is still every bit the leader in Swiss horology as they ever were.
Lest we forget that we are discussing a wristwatch in its entirety, let me say that this is a beautiful watch with its 39mm 18k rose gold case and grey dial. Once again, the display back crystal attests to this watch's special status as an Advanced Research product and has a built in loupe over the SpiromaxR spring. Front and display back crystals are sapphire. Screw back provides water resistance to 25 meters.
Dial is silver gray with combination of applied arabic numerals and stick hour markers. Power reserve indicator below 12 o'clock; month subdial between 2 and 3; date at 6 o'clock with moonphase display above it; day subdial between 9 and 10. There is also a rail style minutes chapter with luminous dots at the 5 minute positions.
The automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber number is 324 S IRM QA LU which, in addition to the innovations in the balance spring, also features 355 individual parts, 36 jewels, a 21k winding rotor and a power reserve of 45 hours.
