Description
In watch parlance the term “precious metal” refers to gold or platinum. In the context of vintage Patek Philippe watches, often times stainless steel is the most precious of metals. The reason is that Patek made the vast majority of their watches in gold. A stainless steel Patek wristwatch from the 1930s is a truly rare thing.
This watch recently passed through Patek Philippe factory service and is in outstanding condition. It is unworn since the service.
Original 31mm diameter stainless steel case has domed acrylic crystal and large winding crown. Steel snap case back. Top surface of the bezel is mirror polished while the rest of the case is brush finished.
Original untouched silver dial with applied Breguet numerals, original sword hands, embossed minutes/seconds chapter and subsidiary seconds subdial. In addition to PATEK PHILIPPE & CO GENEVE, this dial is also signed FIRST CLASS. This is a reference to the Swiss Observatory timing competitions from back in the day, when the calibers with the absolute best timing performances were called Kew class ‘A’ or “First Class”.
Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 12-120 with 18 jewels and adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and in 5 positions. Movement is clean and running.
New vintage Patek Philippe strap with steel buckle.
This watch will be accompanied by its Extract from the Archives showing that it was manufactured in 1937 and with a retail sales date of January 4, 1938.
