Description
After three years of preliminary research and prototype watches, the Richard Mille brand exploded onto the watch scene in 2001. From this watch, the RM001 - Richard Mille's first commercial timepiece, it was obvious that the brand was going to become a smashing success. What makes Richard Mille timepieces so highly regarded is that Mr. Mille brought a fresh perspective to wristwatches, after a long career in the automotive business. Richard took nothing for granted, and questioned every aspect of how watches had been designed and built. The result is a model lineup of watches that use advance materials, unique approaches to engineering that also consider the aesthetic implications of mechanical considerations, and basically a stable of watches that are all instantly recognizable as a Richard Mille and as being of superior quality.
This RM016 has a huge rectangular case made in 18k rose gold, with dimensions of 50mm long by 38mm wide by 8.5mm thick. It is a sporty look and a great look. Sapphire crystals front and back and a cool crown with rose gold cone.
The front and back of the watch show the skeletonized movement plates, revealing much of what is happening mechanically with the watch. There is no dial, per se, rather there is a frame with a minutes and seconds chapter. Also, the front of the watch displays oversized Arabic numerals with adjacent luminous dots, and there is a large date display at 7 o’clock.
Like all Richard Mille movements, this one makes use of special light weight technologically advanced materials which also minimize friction, which is the enemy of moving parts inside watch movements. The Richard Mille Caliber RM005 has automatic winding, 32 jewels and beats at 28,800 beats per hour.
