Description
The Patek Philippe 5550P is the fourth Advaned Research wristwatch, each of which has built on the innovations of the previous model. Patek has used the Advanced Research watch series to introduce new movement materials and parts designs, in their never ending quest to build the perfect movement. Never a firm that rests on its laurels, Patek is always forward looking and the 5550 demonstrates this with abundance.
Significantly, the previous Advanced Researh models (5250, 5350 and 5450) were all annual calendars. This 5550, however, is a full perpetual calendar and was produced in only 300 watches with thin platinum case.
Platinum case has dimensions of 37.5mm diameter by 9.3mm thin. The case is very classical with smooth bezel and downward pointing lugs. Sapphire front and display back crystals. The display back crystal has a loupe built into it, to highlight the balance wheel.
Dial is brush finished silver with rose gold appointments, which look fantastic and give the 5550P a vintage look to contrast with its most modern movement. I love this touch! Dial is signed PATEK PHILIPPE GENEVE ADVANCED RESEARCH. Hands have inlaid luminous and there are luminous dots adjacent to each of the applied golden hour markers.
Again, the 5550P is the fourth in the Advanced Research wristwatch series. Each is a limited edition and usually only offered to Patek’s best customers, given the wristwatches’ historical importance. The theme of the watches is to improve the movements by introducing new materials and parts. These parts are silicium, and the 5550P aggregates all of the previously introduced Advanced Research parts into its Caliber 240QP, and in turn introduces new parts. Accordingly, the 5550P makes use of the complete system of silicium parts, named “Oscillomax” by Patek. This movement is said to have an additional 50% of power reserve thanks to the Oscillomax system. The balance cock on this caliber is also shaped differently from the regular Caliber 240’s balance cock.
As you can see, this is a most special watch. Watch is new with box and papers. It has brown hand-sewn Patek strap with platinum deployment clasp.
