Description
This reference 3558 Calatrava is an unusual and rare model. Patek Philippe made the movements that went into the 3558s in the early 1970s, while 3558s were still being sold into the 1980’s. Stylistically, this watch straddles the 1970s and 1980s. This particular watch is in mint/mint condition and also contains one of Patek’s best ever movements and a massive gold screw back.
Original solid 18k gold case with huge lugs. Case appears to be unpolished and with the original factory finish. Alternating between mirror polished and brushed surfaces with a clean beveled edge on the sides of the lugs. Domed sapphire crystal and aforementioned massive 18k screw back. The case is in mint+ condition.
Original radially brushed gold dial with applied black hour markers and original black baton hands. Subsidiary seconds dial. Date window, traced in gold, at 3 o’clock. And my favorite: embossed minutes chapter around the periphery.
Original automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 27-460 M with 37 jewels, massive 18k gold winding rotor, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and in 5 positions and double stamped with the Geneva Seal. Movement is immaculate and running.
This rare vintage Calatrava is on a new Patek crocodile strap with 18k buckle.
