Description
So rare that for years collectors doubted that the black “home plate” dial even existed… most collectors have never seen one in person… but here it is. Tudor Oysterdate chronograph with original untouched black home plate dial from circa 1971. Only five watches with the black home plate dial are known to exist.
The home plate dial Oysterdate is rare to begin with. When a collector is fortunate enough to encounter one, the dial color is grey with black subdials and the watch has a large price premium to the normal non-home plate dial. However, as you can see, this dial is black with grey subdials and, as mentioned, this untouched perfect condition dial is among the most elite of collectable vintage Tudor/Rolex watches.
Original stainless steel case manufactured by Rolex is massive at 40mm diameter by 13mm thick. Case edges are crisp and lugs are thick and uniform. Original bezel engraved with Units per Hour scale. Screw down chronograph pushers. Original Rolex signed crown. Case back is signed ORIGINAL OYSTER CASE BY ROLEX GENEVA. Plastic crystal. Serial number 759XXX dates production to circa 1971.
Original black home plate dial also features orange design elements and date at 6 o’clock. Original hands in mint condition.
Movement is the manual winding Tudor caliber 7734 with 17 jewels and self-compensating balance spring. Movement is clean and running and chronograph functions reset crisply and accurately to their zero positions.
Watch is on new strap with steel Rolex buckle.
