Description
If you have been waiting for a mint condition unpolished model 16520 Cosmograph Daytona to come along – here is your watch! Original white dial with the desirable inverted ‘6’. Like Leonard Cohen sings, Everybody Knows that the 16520 was the first-ever automatic winding Rolex Daytona and, as such, is an important and temporarily underpriced collectable watch.
Original never polished stainless steel case measures 40mm diameter by 13mm thick. The 16520 is also the first Daytona with a sapphire crystal. Original Triplock crown operates perfectly as do the screw down chronograph pushers. This is a ‘X’ series watch from 1991. Case is in mint condition with sharp edges. Case back still has the original green sticker with the “16520” legible.
Original white dial with those classic 16520 black subdial chapters, red DAYTONA, applied hour markers and baton hands, and three subdials all traced in a white gold ring. The chronograph 12 hour totalizer subdial has the desirable inverted ‘6’. Dial and hands are in perfect condition.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 4030 which is actually a Rolex modified Zenith El Primero base caliber. If one ever needed proof that Rolex is a perfectionist, they need look no further than Rolex's selection of and modifications to the El Primero. The Zenith El Primero was, and is, recognized as being the best large series production chronograph caliber made. Rolex used the El Primero in their Daytona watches, but not before doing extensive upgrades and refinements. The movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Bracelet is the original 78930 Oyster with 12 links, flip-lock clasp, and like the rest of the watch is in mint condition.
You won’t find a nicer 16520 Rolex Daytona than this watch, which will be delivered in Rolex box.
