ROLEX VINTAGE DATEJUST 6605 18K WHITE GOLD BLACK GILT DIAL 1957

The Datejust is one the foundations upon which Rolex’s success is built. This reference 6605 Datejust in 18k white gold (only two are known to exist) is from 1957. Condition is 100% original and mint+. Its gilt gloss black dial is untouched original and mint. Original mint+ 18k white gold case measures 35mm diameter by 12mm thick. Original and clean fluted bezel. Original screw down crown is operating perfectly. The crystal is plastic and extremely clean. Interestingly, the reference 6605 was the first Datejust (and first Rolex watch, for that matter) to be delivered with the famous “Cyclops” lens built into the crystal, over the date display. Inside case back has ‘6605’ along with the 18K gold hallmarks. Original exceedingly rare black gilt gloss pie-pan dial is untouched and in mint condition. Applied white gold hour markers. Original lance style hands. The original date wheel alternates red color even number dates with black color odd number dates. Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1065 with 25 jewels, adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Watch is new hand sewn crocodile strap with steel Rolex buckle.
