Description
The reference 1655, the so called Steve McQueen and “Orange Hand”, is the first Explorer II. The early watches, of which this is an example, have a straight (no dot on it) seconds hand and are much rarer than the later watches This watch was made in 1972 and is from the 1655’s first year of production.
Stainless steel case measures 38mm in diameter by 13.5mm thick. Case features a plastic crystal, screw down crown (operating as it should) and original bezel with engraved 24 hour scale. Serial number 3283XXX dates production to 1972.
Dial is 100% original and the luminous is still white. Original hands. Again, this early 1655 has the straight seconds hand. The original dial and hands used on Explorer II 1655s are unique to this reference number, and give the watch a distinctive appearance in the world of Rolex watches.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Bracelet is the Rolex heavy link Oyster reference 78360 with 12 links and non-flip-lock clasp.
Condition of watch is mint.
