Description
The Patek Philippe reference 5070 is a gorgeous, masculine timepiece that makes an impression. This is a watch whose quality is unmistakable and will make a very positive impression on watch enthusiasts and the unwashed alike.

In fact, in my opinion, it is the now discontinued reference 5070 that marked and launched the twenty first century incarnation of Patek Philippe – large, modernly styled timepieces that are highly coveted by the collector’s market. The 5070 made a big splash when it debuted among Patek collectors not only for its bold styling, but also because it was the firm’s first pure chronograph since the discontinuance of the reference 1463 in the 1960s.

The sculpted, never polished massive 18k rose gold case measures 42mm diameter by 13mm thick. The bezel is very broad and is set off by the large winding crown, rectangular chrono-pushers and long, thick lugs. The lugs are stepped, and anyone paying attention knows that Patek uses stepped lugs on only the timepieces they consider elite like the famous references 2499, 3970, 5970 etc… The lug steps are undiminished by polishing. Magnificent case!

The original owner of this watch undoubtedly had a special relationship with Patek and had this amazing black diamond dial changed into the watch during a service. Rose gold feuille hands. The outermost chapter on the dial is a simple seconds register for the chronograph seconds hand, while the inner chapter is a tachymetric scale.

Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 27, clearly visible through the sapphire display back, proudly displaying its Geneva Seal. 24 jewels in this beauty, which beats at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour... which helps to extend the power reserve to approximately 56 hours. Movement is adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and in 8 positions.

Patek hand-sewn crocodile strap with 18k gold tang buckle.

Watch is new condition with box and papers. Long discontinued now, the 5070 is an important and highly collectable Patek Philippe… and a truly beautiful and inspiring wristwatch.
