Description
The 1999 chronograph was only made between 1999 and 2002. In my opinion, it is among the best looking chronographs ever offered by any brand, period. Its proportions and overall size are ideal and the dial is so great looking. The “fit and finish” on a Girard Perregaux is the best, tied with only A. Lange & Sohne. The watch was offered with a cream color dial or this black dial, which is much rarer. In all, GP made around 300 of the 1999 chronographs. This is number 8X.
Steel case is 38mm by 13mm with long curving lugs, domed sapphire crystal, display back with sapphire crystal and pump style chronograph pushers. Signed crown. Girard Perregaux makes its own cases and movements and their attention to detail is evident.
Black dial with applied arabic numerals and large sword hands, date window between 4 and 5 o’clock, and tachymetre scale at the periphery. Three sunken subdials with concentric guilloche: running seconds, 30 minute chronograph totalizer and 12 hour totalizer.
Movement is the automatic winding in-house Girard Perregaux manufacture Caliber 3370, which is built from the base GP Caliber 3300. With 63 jewels and beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, this is a high-end movement.
Strap is a new Girard Perregaux crocodile with exposed red stitching that perfectly flatters the watch. Watch is in excellent condition and is a rare find.
