Description
I love how Patek Philippe keeps bringing exciting watches to the market. This model 5200 Gondolo has a formed, stepped rectangular case in 18k white gold which houses a formed movement with 8 days of power reserve. The beautiful matte blue dial also pleasingly presents the day and date in classical fashion.
White gold stepped case is 47mm long by 32.4mm wide by 10.4mm thick, with sapphire front and display back crystals. The entire case and its crystals are anatomically curved for comfort. The case is cut from a block of solid gold.
Obviously, this watch draws inspiration from the model 5100 10 day power reserve watch that Patek made to commemorate the new millennium. The cases are of similar design, as is the super-long power reserve. The caliber in this 5200 model incorporates many of the mechanical and engineering advances that were born in the special Patek Philippe Advanced Research series of watches, advances that the model 5100 did not have access to.
I encourage the reader, if he or she has further interest in this model’s specifics, to read the .pdf for the 5200 on Patek’s website. Patek even refers to The Beatles’ 1964 hit song “Eight Days a Week”!
Matte blue sunburst finished dial is exquisite, with applied indices, eight day power reserve indicator with red section showing the wearer when the watch’s energy is critically low, lower section with subsidiary seconds, date with indicator hand with red tip and aperture for days. I can’t forget my favorite, dauphine hands.
The formed manual winding Caliber 28-20 REC 8J PS IRM C J is an engineering marvel. Movement incorporates all of Patek’s most advanced materials and technology, and has 28 jewels, 235 individual parts and is stamped with the Patek Philippe Seal.
Watch is on navy blue Patek strap with 18k tang buckle.
Watch is new with box and papers.
