Description
Not surprisingly, it was a Swiss watchmaker who published the first logarithmic tables. Jost Burgi’s work was introduced in 1622, and his tables were used by academics and scientists all over the world. It is logarithmic graduation that lies behind developing scales like the tachymeter, telemeter and pulsimeter scales on the dial of this limited edition automatic chronograph from Patek Philippe’s 175th Commemorative Anniversary Collection. This watch is, essentially, a wrist-borne calculator.
Rose gold case has tiered lugs and is 40mm in diameter by 10.25mm thick. Sapphire front crystal and solid gold case back with inscription “PATEK PHILIPPE GENEVE 175 Anniversaire 1839-2014”. The watch has an overall vintage appearance which is reinforced by the rectangular shaped chronograph pushers which were used in Patek’s early chronographs.
Silver-white opaline color dial is a work of art. With applied rose gold indices and dauphine hands, the dial provides tachometer, telemeter and pulsimiter scales in an orderly and legible fashion. Blackened center chronograph seconds hand for maximum legibility.
Movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 28-520 with 239 individual parts, beating at 28,800 beats per hour and with a 50-55 hour power reserve. Further, this caliber features column wheel construction and is stamped with the Patek Philippe Seal. Patek developed the movement in this watch explicitly for this 5975 model. Its timekeeping will not deviate from -3 to +2 seconds per day. This absolute timekeeping superiority is required for the watch to achieve its overall goal of being a calculator for the wrist.
Watch is factory sealed new with special commemorative engraved 18k rose gold deployment clasp, on dark brown hand-sewn Patek crocodile strap. Watch is limited to 400 pieces produced and will be delivered with box and papers.
