Description
Patek Philippe is the indisputable king of Swiss watch making. Their history is remarkable. Their level of horological innovation is unrivaled. The worldtime (also known as worldtimer) complication is one of Patek’s inventions, and I have to say for international travelers or people doing business internationally, there is no complication that is more useful than being able to see the time in any city/timezone in the world at a glance. Patek no longer makes this reference 5110 worldtime watch.
Case is 18k white gold with dimensions of 37mm by 9.7mm thick. There are no superfluous design touches here at all - the case is simple and straightforward. The button at 10 o'clock advances the hour hand and the 24 hour ring in one hour increments, so that when travelling the watch can be set to local time without disturbing worldtime.
Movement is the Patek Philippe Caliber 240 HU with automatic winding. This caliber features micro-rotor construction and is stamped with the Geneva Seal.
Dial is silver and grey with guilloche and applied hour markers in the center. Revolving around the center is the 24 hour ring, which makes one counter-clockwise rotation every 24 hours. The outermost area of the dial contains the names of 24 cities, each of them a reference city for each of the earth's 24 timezones. The time in the reference cities can be instantly read in this manner - a system which is much more effective than simple GMT or second timezone type watches, because the time for every area of the world is displayed.
Strap is Patek hand-sewn black crocodile with 18k white gold Patek deployant clasp.
