Description
This Quantieme Perpetual Automatic is the first gold Royal Oak perpetual calendar. Of course, this is also the first skeletonized gold version. Audemars Piguet hit horological gold when they hired Gerald Genta to design the Royal Oak in 1972. This watch is an elite collectable and classic beauty and something to get excited about. Watch is UNPOLISHED mint+ with box and papers. The gold has dark patina and looks rose gold in many areas.
The Royal Oak is all about the case, the visual highlight of which is the octagonal bezel. The Royal Oak also has the distinction of being the first watch to have an integral bracelet. In addition, the fit and finish on a Royal Oak is always phenomenal. The case is sculpted from a massive chunk of gold and has case side bevels. The finish alternates between polished and brushed surfaces. Size is 39mm diameter by 8.2mm thin. Sapphire crystal and solid case back. Note the screws visible on the bezel, which have a structural role, as they go all the way through the two-part case and hold the watch together, impermeable to water intrusion. The Royal Oak is Audemars Piguet’s first sports watch.
Skeletonized “dial” with chapter rings. Calendar displays month, date, moonphase and day. Calendar hands are blued as is the moonphase wheel.
Automatic Audemars Piguet Caliber 2120 with 38 jewels, Gyromax balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and in 5 positions. Rotor has a 21k gold segment to increase mass and winding efficiency.
Full-length solid 18k bracelet with folding safety clasp.
Watch is unpolished mint condition and very collectable with box and papers.
