Description
The Royal Oak’s roots go back to 1972, when Gerald Genta’s astonishingly brazen watch idea was given shape and came to fruition thanks to Audemars Piguet. The Royal Oak is what I call a Category Killer. In the watch’s category, in this case luxury sports watch, no other competing model comes close.
This watch, a model 26300ST Royal Oak automatic chronograph, is the classically sized 39mm case with its iconic octagonal bezel, slab steel case and integral steel bracelet. Chronograph pushers and crown are all protected by steel shoulders surrounding them, and all screw down so as to make them water proof. Sapphire crystal. Case is three-part construction, with screw down bezel and case back. The Royal Oak is a beautiful, luxuriant, metal sandwich.
Original white dial with color change to a tropical caramel color. Dial has the Royal Oak dial signature Clous de Paris engraving along with applied (no longer luminous) hour markers and hands. Subdials for running seconds and chronograph 30 minute and 12 hour totalizers.
In-house automatic winding AP Caliber 2385 with gold winding rotor and 304 individual components. Audemars’ movements are the elite of the elite and this one is running perfectly.
Bracelet is tight with no stretch and safety clasp.
