Description
The reference 1655 is the first Explorer II, which was designed for cave explorers. The orange hand makes one sweep of the dial every 24 hours, allowing the wearer to keep on a day/night schedule even in a complete absence of light. For me, the best thing about the 1655 is that no other Rolex looks like it.
Original UNPOLISHED stainless steel case measures 38mm diameter by 13.3mm thick. Original bezel is clean with undiminished sharp edges and the case overall is in mint+ condition with full lugs and original bevels. Crystal is plastic. Original screw down crown operates perfectly. Serial number 6655XXX dates production to 1980.
Original untouched black dial is mint. Luminous on dial has uniform and pleasing patina. Orange 24 hour hand is still vibrant orange.
Original movement is the 26 jewel automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570, which is adjusted to five positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Condition is clean and running.
