Description

Make no mistake, this is a real “Paul Newman” dial chronograph in every sense of the word. Singer is the company that made Rolex dials for many years, most notably the maker of the Paul Newman (or “Exotic”) dials that went into Rolex Daytona chronographs. The back of this original, unmodified dial is stamped ‘Singer’ and is of Singer manufacture in the 1970s. Wakmann is a company known for its 1970s chronographs. The company also made a triple date chronograph, although not with this dial. This watch has a tonneau shaped case measuring 47.7mm long by 40.6mm wide by 15.5mm thick. Case is gold-filled with stainless steel case back. Just like the Daytona, this case features a screwed back and plastic crystal and pump-style chronograph pushers. Black Paul Newman dial signed WAKMANN MADE FRANCE with familiar contrasting color subdials with concentric guilloche, the hash marks with the blocks, the contrasting color ring around the dial with the hour markers, adjacent luminous dots and red seconds chapter. Original hands. Movement is the manual winding Valjoux Caliber 7736 with 17 jewels, in clean running recently serviced condition. Own an original 1970’s chronograph with original Singer-made Paul Newman dial at a fraction of the price of a Rolex Paul Newman Daytona.
