AUDEMARS PIGUET JOHN SHAEFFER JUMP HOUR MINUTE REPEATER PLATINUM

While there are numerous minute repeaters available to watch collectors, I don't know of any that have more charm than this jump hour repeater in platinum. The "John Shaeffer" model name is given to the cushion shaped case watches from AP, and it's a perfectly sized and perfectly proportioned case at 34mm square by 9.2mm thick. What gives this watch such personality is the pairing of the quirky and seldom seen jump hour and disc display minutes with the minute repeater.

Let's start with the case, because it's complex: two apertures display (jump) hours and minutes. Both windows are protected by sapphire crystals, as is the case back. "Audemars Piguet" is engraved on the case top. Case finish alternates between brush and mirror finished surfaces.

The discs that display the hours and minutes are white enamel.

The movement is the Audemars Piguet Caliber 2865. As you would expect at such levels of watchmaking, the movement is hand finished, hand decorated, hand assembled and regulated at AP's ateliers. The movement is also inscribed with "Adjusted to Heat Cold and 5 Positions". Like a minute repeater should, this movement permits viewing the repeater hammer and gongs working their magic. There really is something about a repeater that's magic.

Strap is black AP alligator with platinum AP tang buckle.
