Description
If you have seen pictures of Hollywood celebrities wearing a Rolex Daytona lately, there’s a good chance it is blackened like this one is. This watch is a modern interpretation on Rolex’s best watch ever: the Paul Newman Daytona made from the mid-1960s through the 1980s.
The case is blackened stainless steel with dimensions of 40mm diameter by 12.8mm thick. The black is applied with a process called “PVD” which is basically a thick black coating that is sprayed onto the watch. The watch and bracelet are disassembled first, so that all of the nooks and crannies get a thick coating. The crystal is sapphire. Crown and chronograph pushers screw down. Water resistant to 100 meters. Bracelet is the original Oyster. Bezel is engraved with the Units per Hour scale from ‘50’ to ‘200’.
The dial is modified to be a contemporary interpretation of the classic Rolex Paul Newman dial. Black with contrasting white subdials and applied hour markers with inlaid black. There are 30 minute and 12 hour chronograph totalizer subdials along with a running seconds subdial. Red chronograph hands provide a sporty splash of color.
Movement is the outstanding Rolex automatic winding Caliber 4130. Rolex designed and built this caliber as the best chronograph movement that could be manufactured. They concentrated on technical excellence (long lubrication life, long service intervals and minimizing friction), timekeeping excellence (C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer) and serviceability (the watchmakers can service and/or repair the caliber easily).
Watch is in near mint condition and will be delivered with Rolex box.
