Description
This is an outstanding original untouched vintage Rolex Cosmograph Daytona chronograph reference 6239 with three-color “Paul Newman” step dial and original Rolex box and papers.
Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 37mm diameter by 13.7mm thick. Case features include: screw down crown and round pump style chronograph pushers (all working properly and the chronograph resets crisply to the zero position), bezel with engraved “Units per Hour” scale ranging from ‘50’ to ‘200’ and plastic crystal. Inside case back is marked ‘6239’. Serial number is 2004XXX which dates production to 1968.
Vibrant, original and untouched black three-color “Paul Newman” dial with crisp step, which is also known as an “exotic” dial. Seonds chapter and “DAYTONA” in red. Contrasting white subdials, one for chronograph 30 minutes totalizer, one for chronograph 12 hour totalizer and one for constant seconds. Hands are original.
Original manual winding Rolex chronograph Caliber 722-1 with 17 jewels and adjusted to three positions. This movement features column wheel construction and is immaculate and running.
Bracelet is Rolex riveted Oyster in stainless steel with fold over clasp. Bracelet is original to the watch and in mint condition just like the watch.
It is a rarity for a 1968 Daytona to have original Rolex box and papers, but this watch is accompanied by its box and papers, just as it was when it left the retailer in Montreal on July 22, 1971.
