Description
Vintage Rolex collectors know that the reference 6241 Daytona is a rare watch. In fact, Rolex only made approximately 3,000 model 6241s. The 6241 is one millimeter wider than the model 6239, the much more common model with the steel bezel. Only about one in ten Daytonas back in the day were outfitted with the “Exotic” dial, which is what Rolex called the dial that later came to be called the “Paul Newman” dial. So a 6241 Paul Newman is a genuinely rare watch, particularly almost 50 years later, since most of the surviving watches are permanently retired into collections.
Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 13.6mm thick. Crystal is plastic. Pump style chronograph pushers and screw down crown are all original and working perfectly. Original bezel with sharp edges and original black insert with ‘50’ to ‘200’ Units per Hour scale.
Original untouched black three-color Paul Newman dial with crisp step. Subdials are sunken and white so as to contrast with the black for legibility and have original blackened subdial hands.
Original movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 722-1 with seventeen jewels and adjusted to three positions. Movement features column wheel construction and is clean and running.
Bracelet is a folded link Rolex Oyster in mint condition.
