Looking back as time goes by, it's the little things that define a product or an era. It is seemingly insignificant details that are often lost in the name of "progress". I have visited the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston many times, and when viewing the many pens, writing desks and letters from the 1800s and early 1900s in their excellent collection, I am always struck by the character and richness of these items. People had fewer things, but what they had were really nice, handmade objects. The handwritten letters were literally, in most instances, labors of love.

It used to be the same with watches. Subtle touches like the pie pan dial are part of Rolex's history now. Unlike this era of legion luxury watch brands, when this "President" was produced and sold, it was pretty much the most luxurious wristwatch that could be bought.

Watch and President bracelet are never polished 18k gold. Case is 36mm diameter by 13mm thick. Screw down crown and screw down case back for absolute impermeability from dirt and water. Plastic crystal. Serial number 4091XXX dates production to 1975.

Original untouched and rare white pie pan dial with applied golden hour markers with adjacent, intact luminous dots and original baton hands with inlaid luminous. The “pie pan” edge slants downwardly from the dial's surface. These seemingly small details are the difference between a ho-hum dial and a striking, beautiful dial. Most Day Dates from the period have silver or champagne color dials. This white dial is very versatile and great looking.

Movement is the Rolex automatically winding Caliber 1555. The caliber 15XX movements, in our opinion and experience, are the most accurate and dependable large series automatic movements ever produced.
