Description
The nicest example of a straight seconds hand (first year production) reference 1655, the so called Steve McQueen and “Orange Hand”, we have ever offered. The 1655 is the first Explorer II and this case appears never polished and is in mint+ condition.
Stainless steel case measures 38mm in diameter by 13.5mm thick. Case has plastic crystal, screw down crown and original bezel with engraved 24 hour scale. Serial number 3097XXX dates production to 1971/72 and the inside case back is stamped II.72 for second quarter 1972.
Organic patina on this original and untouched black dial is the perfect shade and is uniform across the hour markers and original hands. The black color of the dial is mellowing and there are hints of brown hues emerging.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Movement is pristine and running.
Bracelet is the Rolex heavy link Oyster reference 78360 with correct non flip-lock clasp.
Watch is in mint+ condition and the dial is the nicest 1655 dial I have seen.
