Description
Jaeger LeCoultre, known as “JLC” in the watch world, introduced the Reverso model in 1931. Designed specifically for the needs of polo players, who wished to protect their watch by being able to simply flip it over to keep it out of harm’s way while on horseback, then flip it back when their match was over. The Reverso is one of the iconic watches, and these super early watches in all-original condition come around rarely.
The Reverso case is an amazing innovation that is unchanged in 80+ years. This steel case is 38.5mm long from lug tip to lug tip. The watch case itself is 27mm long by 8.4mm thick. Flush mounted acrylic crystal. Case back is engraved “JP”.
Earlier this year, a 1935 Reverso that belonged to famed general Douglas MacArthur brought approximately $90,000 (87,500CHF) at auction. It is worth pointing out that the personalized engraving on the general’s watch is of the same character, design and quality as the personalized engraving on this watch… which leads us to conclude that both were done at the factory in the 1930s.
Original untouched black dial with large luminous arabic numerals (no longer luminous) and sword hands, minutes chapter at the dial’s periphery, and square subsidiary seconds display at 6 o’clock.
Movement is the original manual winding JLC Caliber 410 with 15 jewels. Movement is clean and running.
