Description
Rolex only made the Oysterquartz Datejust from 1977-2002. Production was limited, as was the market for these watches. However, these futuristic looking watches are now quite collectable. This watch has a lot going for it. To start, its case has never been polished, leaving the sharp case bevels undimished. The untouched original purple dial is beyond crazy and cool.
The thinking behind the Oysterquartz watches, was that these would be for people not active enough to keep an automatic winding watch running. It’s no surprise that Palm Springs, California was far and away where most of the Oysterquartz watches were sold.
Fantastic never polished steel case with undiminished case bevels, smooth bezel, sapphire crystal and signed crown. Bracelet is integral to the case and will fit up to an 8 inch wrist. Bracelet links taper in width as they approach the folding clasp. Case is 42mm long by 36mm wide by 12.7mm thick.
Original and rare blue dial with applied white gold hour markers and baton hands. Date window at 3 o’clock.
Movement is the quartz powered and extremely accurate Rolex Caliber 5035 with quicket date and 11 jewels. Make no mistake: Rolex took their quartz calibers very seriously, despite their fame for their self-winding movements. Rolex received over 20 patents for their quartz movements. Many seasoned watchmakers say that the quartz movements are better finished than their automatic counterparts.
This watch is a rare model, and Rolex won’t be making them ever again. Never polished and mint, with purple dial… get it while you can.
