Description
While I am not suggesting someone purchase a watch solely for the movement inside, let’s just say in this watch’s case (pun intended) it would be a good decision. Speaking of the case, this case is never polished and it’s also very rare in 18k white gold. Remarkably, the Extract from the Archives that will accompany the watch shows that is was made in 1973 but not sold until 1989. A true survivor!
Unpolished original case is 18k white gold with SHARP edges, alternating brushed and polished surfaces. Bezel is mirror finished, while the main case body and flat part of the case back are brush finished. The edge of the case back is polished. This is the watch’s original finish. The case is two parts – snap back and case body which also incorporates the bezel and crystal. The crystal is sapphire. The original crown recesses into the case. Case measures 33mm diameter by 7.8mm thick.
Original movement is the automatically winding Patek Philippe Caliber 28-255C. In fact, this movement is so nice that even if you don’t know a thing about watches, you can tell just by looking at it that this is a really nice watch. I mean who would design such a beautiful machine if it weren’t going inside something special? The technical details of this movement are: rhodium plating; 36 jewels; Gyromax balance; balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions; self compensating free-sprung balance; and stamped with the Geneva Seal. The movement is in freshly serviced, perfect condition and is operating strongly.
Original dial is silvered, almost white, with applied white gold hour markers and hands. The date window is framed in gold.
Original vintage strap in unworn condition with original white gold Patek buckle.
