Description
This watch is New Old Stock – as new as the day it shipped to the dealer. Never worn, never polished, original case back sticker in perfect condition, with original Rolex box, booklets and papers. ‘A’ serial number dates to 1999, the final year of production for the model 16520 before Rolex introduced the 116520.
Stainless steel case is 39mm diameter by 12.5mm thick. Units Per Hour bezel engraving with scale from ‘400’ to ‘60’, sapphire crystal, screw down crown and screw down chronograph pushers which ensure water resistance to 100 meters on this legendary Rolex sports watch.
Original black dial with applied luminous hour markers and hands, red "Daytona", and 30 minute and 12 hour chronograph totalizer subdials.
Movement is the Rolex Caliber 4030 which is actually a Rolex modified Zenith El Primero base caliber. If one ever needed proof that Rolex is a perfectionist, they need look no further than Rolex's selection of and modifications to the El Primero. The Zenith El Primero was, and is, recognized as being the best large series production chronograph caliber made. Rolex used the El Primero in their Daytona watches, but not before doing extensive upgrades and refinements. The movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
