Description
An identical 14k 6241 with black and gold Paul Newman dial, the so-called John Player Special, sold at the now legendary November 2013 Christies’ auction for 389,000 Swiss Francs(over $400,000). It is believed that fewer than 400 model 6241 Daytonas were made in 14k. Certainly, only a handful of these were fitted with a Paul Newman dial.
The black and gold Paul Newman dial is striking in appearance. The dial is original and untouched and in perfect condition with applied indices in the outer minutes and seconds chapter, and three contrasting color gold subdials. Original hands in mint condition.
Case is 14k with 38mm diameter, black bakelite bezel insert, plastic crystal, round pump-style chronograph pushers and screw-down crown, all of which are original and functioning perfectly. Case is in mint+ condition.
Movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 722-1 with 17 jewels and column wheel construction. Movement is clean and running.
The 6241 was only manufactured between 1966 and 1969, and with its black bezel, is one of the most collectable Daytona models. This John Player Special Paul Newman version is at the elite level of collecting and we are pleased and proud to offer it to all collectors.
