Description
Lange & Sohne makes one heck of a nice watch. Personally, I consider it to be on par with Patek Philippe. In fact, the finish of the Lange & Sohne movements is superior to Patek’s movements in my opinion. There is immense attention to detail, and superior artistry in the decoration. For example, the balance cock in Lange’s Calibers are engraved by hand and each is an individual work of art. Lange’s designs are decidedly Teutonic, but the execution is so rich in quality and detail. An absolutely astounding horological value at these watches’ pricepoint.
The movement requires you to stare at it for at least 15 minutes every morning before you strap it on. The movement features the Glashutte ¾ plate, upon which is mounted the 21k gold mini-rotor with platinum segment (for extra mass = better winding efficiency). The movement features 45 jewels and Lange’s proprietary Sax-O-Mat system whereby the seconds hand flies to the zero position and stops when the crown is pulled out. This makes setting the time very easy. Power reserve is 42 hours and there is also a goose-neck fine adjustment for the Nivarox spring.
Solid silver dial plate with two-tone black finish with over-sized date display, for which Lange holds patents, applied white gold hour markers with luminous dots at the cardinal positions, sunken seconds subdial, and Lange’s uniquely shaped hands with inset luminous.
Case is 18k white gold, 37mm in diameter, with clean lines and superior finish. Sapphire crystal, signed crown, sapphire display back crystal, and date advancement button at the 10 o’clock position on the case side.
Strap is black Lange crocodile with 18k white gold Lange deployment clasp.
