Description
The Rolex Explorer II reference 16550 is a collectable, short lived, Rolex sports watch made from late 1984 into 1986 only.
Original stainless steel case is 40mm diameter by 12.5mm thick. Bracelet is a heavy link Rolex Oyster with non flip-lock clasp reference 78360. Serial number 8584XXX dates production to late 1984.
Original cream dial with unpainted white gold hands and hour markers versus the later and much more familiar reference 16570 which uses blackened white gold hands and hour markers. Many 16550s have had these original dials replaced with the 16570 dials, which is incorrect.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3085 with 27 jewels. Movement is clean and running and is a C.Os.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
