Description
If MOMA were ever to produce a watch, it would look like a Urwerk. Presenting Urwerk’s newest model 103 watch, the 103.09 Targa, which replaces all previous versions of the watch. This watch is modern art for the wrist. If being at the leading edge of contemporary is your style, this Urwerk Targa is your watch.

I love it when someone (in this case Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei) rethinks the premise of something basic, and then comes up with a fresh conceptual interpretation. In this case, these masterminds applied their creative talents to our favorite thing: the watch.

As cool and interesting as this watch case is, it takes second place in innovation to the system of displaying the time. Basically, there are four orbiting aluminum cones, painted black and with bright luminous, which display the hour along the arching minutes scale at the bottom of the watch. The four cones are connected to a cross, and each cone pivots to its next position when it crosses below the gold peninsula. As avant garde as this time displaying system is, it is also immediately intuitive when you wear the watch.

Case is 18k rose gold and dimensions are 50mm long by 36mm wide by 13.5mm thick. Top of the case features deep vertical channeling and the curves of an aerodynamic sport's car's roof and windshield. In fact, viewed at the right angles, the case looks a lot like an super-car, with windshield, roof and with the crown appearing as a jet engine. Crown is located at the top of the case and is massive. Crown pulls out for winding and time setting. The back of the case features a "Control Board" where seconds, minutes and power reserve displays are located, along with a micro-adjustment device. The seconds and minutes displays on the Control Board are used when setting the watch.

Movement is manual winding. The movement faces the challenge that the four cones and cross that connects them is 160 times heavier than normal watch hands, despite the titanium construction. Rear of the case features a Control Board, which displays additional details for timekeeping and permits for fine adjustment of the movement. There is also a power reserve indicator.

Strap is Urwerk brown crocodile with black Urwerk buckle.

Watch is 99% new with papers.
