Description
The Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 570 is a perfect design. It embodies the quintessence of form following function. It is a beautiful timepiece that offers nothing more than is necessary to tell the time on a wristwatch. It’s at once subtle and sublime.
This exact watch is featured on pages 112-113 in ‘PATEK PHILIPPE STEEL WATCHES’ by John Goldberger. This is an important wristwatch.
When is stainless steel worth a lot more than its weight in gold? When it is a vintage Patek watch case, that’s when. Original steel case is 36mm diameter and 10.4mm thick. Crystal is acrylic. The original finish alternates between mirror and brush finished surfaces. There is not much to say about the case except that its simple and elegant lines are perfect for its function. Condition is mint.
Original dial is mint, untouched, and silvered with applied white gold index style hour markers and beautiful white gold dauphine hands. The minutes chapter is engraved into the dial, then the dots are filled with white gold. Adhering to the form follows function dictate, this dial offers no more or less than is necessary to tell the time.
Original movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 12’’’120 with 18 jewels and swan neck fine regulator. Movement is clean and running.
New hand made leather strap. Watch was made in 1949 and sold in 1950. This is an important collector’s piece in mint original condition.
