Description
Vintage Submariners are simple, beautiful watches. The reference 1680 was the first Submariner to feature a date display. It was also the first Rolex Submariner to be offered in an 18k gold case. The watch has a unique profile, with its “top hat” acrylic crystal.
Original case is stainless steel and dimensions are 40mm diameter by 15mm thick. “Top Hat” acrylic crystal with cyclops. Original bezel and bezel insert in clean condition. Crown screws down and operates perfectly. Serial number 5645XXX indicates 1978 production.
Original matte black dial with luminous with patina and date at 3 o’clock.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels, adjusted to temperature and 5 positions. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. As I have said many times before, in my opinion the Rolex 15XX calibers are the best-ever serial production automatic calibers from any manufacture. This movement is clean and running.
Interestingly, this watch is on a Jubilee bracelet, which looks great on it.
