Description
Here is one of those legendary watches, that you can’t believe you are holding in your hands, when it finally appears. I have looked at pictures of this beauty innumerable times and I really thought I would never see one in the metal. It is more beautiful than pictures can convey!
Case is 18k in new condition with 40mm diameter, sapphire crystal, screw down crown and chronograph pushers, and bezel with engraved "Units per Hour" scale. Rolex Oyster bracelet in solid 18k gold. Old style clasp with the Rolex coronet.
This particular Daytona is all about its dial. Factory pave diamond with emerald hour markers. ‘ROLEX’ is printed on a miniature gold placard. Applied golden Rolex crown, ‘15’, ‘30’ and ‘45’. Sunken silver subdials for running seconds and the chronograph 30 minute and 12 hour totalizers. Just over the top spectacular and beautiful.
Movement is the Rolex Caliber 4030 which is actually a Rolex modified Zenith El Primero base caliber. If one ever needed proof that Rolex is a perfectionist, they need look no further than their use and modifications to the El Primero. The Zenith El Primero was, and is, recognized as being the best large series production chronograph caliber made. Rolex used the El Primero in their Daytona watches, but not before doing extensive upgrades and refinements.
This watch is in condition. The 16520/16528 models will go on in history to be considered important watches, since they introduced the automatic winding movement to the Daytona, finally. This watch is and always will be epic with this dial!
