Description
Rolex catalogs in the USA started showing the model 6239 in 1963. The 6239 is the first Daytona. Like all Rolex models, the Daytona has undergone extensive evolution… but you are looking at literally one of the first ever Daytona watches. This 923XXX serial number watch dates to 1963.
Let’s start with what makes this particular 6239 so collectable. The dial is untouched original black with underline marking beneath COSMOGRAPH and double SWISS signature at the bottom. The first series bezel with Units per Hour scale on the bezel starting at ‘300’. Look at the scale and how it is in 1 unit increments up to ‘200’. That is how first series bezels are distinguished from second series bezels which stop with 1 unit increments at ‘120’.
Original stainless steel case with aforementioned first series bezel, screw down crown, round pump-style chronograph pushers, plastic crystal and pre-1M serial number.
Original untouched black dial with underline marking, double SWISS signature, applied hour markers, contrasting silver subdials, original hands and intact luminous dots.
Original Rolex manual winding Caliber 72B with 17 jewels and column wheel construction. Movement is immaculate and running. On these very early 6239s, we expect to find the case back with 6238 marking and this watch is consistent with that.
Rolex riveted Oyster bracelet with 4-64 date code in mint condition.
This is a very collectable vintage Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in mint original untouched condition.
