Description
Incredibly rare vintage Rolex, particularly so with the original black gilt gloss dial. This 6075 is from 1961 and still shows the Oyster Perpetual Date’s connection to the earlier Bubble Back era. The solid gold case is two-part and the case back has a heavily domed shape reminiscent of the Bubble Back. This is an incredible find.
Original mint condition 18k gold case measures 35mm diameter by 15.5mm thick. Original bezel is reeded and unlike later Datejusts, this bezel and case are one part. Original crown is signed “SUPER OYSTER ROLEX”. To look at this watch in profile to understand the term “Bubble” in Rolex vernacular. The 18k gold case back and acrylic crystal are highly domed. Crystal is pre-cyclops.
Black gilt gloss dial with applied golden hour markers and original hands. Date is the so called Roulette date which alternates between red and black numbers.
Movement is an automatic winding Rolex caliber, before the movements had their own model numbers, with 26 jewels, marked “SUPER BALANCE” and “ROLEX PERPETUAL CHRONOMETER” (with other markings also). Inside case back shows early Rolex insignia, gold hallmarks and is marked ‘6075’ along with lightly inscribed watchmakers’ notes. As the dial notes, this movement is an “OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED CHRONOMETER”.
This beautiful, important vintage Rolex will be delivered on black Rolex leather strap with Rolex buckle.
