Description
This watch, the reference 5035, will go down in Patek Philippe history as one of their most important watches. In fact, the 5035 is the first annual calendar wristwatch, a complication which Patek invented and patented. Famous for their perpetual calendar watches, the annual calendar offered 99% of the functionality of a perpetual calendar for half of the price.
The Patek Philippe reference 5035 reached out to a new and younger target audience, when it debuted, supported by the "You Never Own a Patek Philippe Timepiece; You Merely Take Care of it for the Next Generation" marketing campaign. For many people who thought that a date was as complicated as a watch got, the annual calendar model caught their attention. Patek chose wisely to market the reference 5035 with this campaign, as it is a watch that combines traditional design elements with a modern appearance and a genuinely useful complication.
Dial is matte silver with applied golden roman numerals and luminous hands. The subdials display day, month and 24 hour time. The date is in a window at 6 o'clock. Railroad style minutes chapter at the dial's periphery.
The 18k yellow gold case is 36.5mm diameter by 11mm thick, and features a smooth bezel, domed front sapphire crystal and sapphire display back crystal.
Movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 315 with power reserve of 48 hours, 35 jewels with 316 individual parts. Rotor is cast from 21k gold for winding efficiency. Movement is stamped with the prestigious Geneva Seal.
Strap is a new brown Patek crocodile with 18k Patek tang buckle.
