Description
This is a rare, desirable vintage Rolex Submariner reference 5513. While reference 5513s abound, the early 5513s are mostly extinct. Remember that these watches were made for and used by divers. Back in the early 1960s, it would not have occurred to a non-diver to buy or wear a diver's watch. So, up until the 1980s, dive watches were worn by divers and, not surprisingly, many were used to the point where they were simply discarded as being beyond hope of repair. Surely, none of the original owners could have guessed the high prices these early watches have go on to command.

This particular 5513 dates to 1965/66. The pointed crown guards case, while showing decades of use, still has its full metal and beveled edges. It’s possible that this case has never been polished. Diameter is 40mm. Original bezel with original now faded to gray “ghost” bezel insert. Serial number 1267XXX dates production to 1965 while inside caseback has a date code of ‘1 66’.

Original untouched Gilt Gloss meters first dial with original hands. Very beautiful!

The movement is the Rolex automatic caliber 1520 with 26 jewels and is in pristine running condition.

Rolex riveted stretch Oyster bracelet with 7-71 date code on clasp.

This really is a rare, early Rolex 5513 Submariner. Perhaps 200 of these pointed crown guard 5513s were ever made. Who knows how many survive to this day, much less circulate on the market? Finally, this is one of those survivor watches that collectors prize so much.
