Description
The Rolex Datejust reference 1625 is known as the “Thunderbird”. The Thunderbird moniker comes from the bezel, which is a bi-directional count-up timing device. On these vintage Datejusts, the Thunderbird bezel is rare. Of course, the condition of the bezel means everything and the fine engraving and numerals in relief on this watch are in great shape.
The stainless steel case is 36mm in diameter. Crystal is plastic. The screw down crown is operating fine. Serial number 1896XXX dates production to 1968. Inside case back has date code of ‘IV.68’ showing that this watch left the factory in the last quarter of 1968.
Silver dial is original and has a rich champagne patina. Applied hour markers. Original hands. Date at 3 o’clock.
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to temperature and in 5 positions. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer and is clean and running.
Strap is custom black suede with steel Rolex buckle.
